NFPA 10 inspection software
NFPA 10 compliance, without the paperwork
FireTag is QR-based fire equipment tracking software that keeps every portable extinguisher on its NFPA 10 schedule — monthly inspections, annual maintenance and the longer test cycles — with records your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) will accept.
What NFPA 10 requires
NFPA 10, “Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers,” is the benchmark fire codes across the United States reference for portable extinguishers, and it’s enforced by your local Authority Having Jurisdiction. It sets four intervals every extinguisher has to follow.
| Interval | Requirement | Who performs it |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | Visual inspection: extinguisher present, accessible, charged, pin and seal intact, no damage. | Owner or designated employee. |
| Annual | Full maintenance examination. | Certified technician. |
| 6 years | Internal examination for most stored-pressure extinguishers. | Certified technician. |
| 12 years | Hydrostatic test, or sooner if corrosion or damage is found. | Certified / licensed facility. |
For the step-by-step detail of each interval, see our fire extinguisher inspection checklist. Serving Canada? See our province-by-province requirements guide.
Why spreadsheets fail an NFPA 10 program
The standard doesn’t just ask you to service equipment — it asks you to prove it, per unit, on time. That’s where paper tags and spreadsheets break down.
Every extinguisher is tracked by itself
NFPA 10 schedules run per extinguisher, not per building. One missed unit is a failed inspection.
Dates that don’t slip
Monthly, annual, 6-year and 12-year dates are easy to lose on paper. FireTag tracks each one and reminds you before it lapses.
Records an AHJ accepts
Each inspection is time-stamped and photographed against the unit’s QR tag — a clean audit trail when the inspector asks.
How FireTag runs your NFPA 10 program
QR label on every unit
Scan to pull up that exact extinguisher’s full history, next due date and compliance status.
Mobile inspections
Technicians run monthly and annual inspections from a phone, on site, against the equipment record.
Automated reminders
FireTag knows when each unit is due and reminds you before anything lapses — no spreadsheet of dates.
Client portal & records
Clients see their own equipment and compliance status in the FireTag Connect portal, and you keep a defensible record for every site.
